Background of ACFO South Sudan

The ongoing violent conflict since 2013 in South Sudan has a devastating impact on the Country in terms of human lives, displacement of people and social fabric and property. Woman and children are the most vulnerable and victims of this senseless civic strife; It is further estimated that over 75% of married women in South Sudan lost their beloved husbands either directly in the war front and revenge killings or indirectly. 58% of women lost their lives in the process of protecting their children during the war, as a result it has exposed over 87% children to become homeless and hopeless based on the 2017 reports published by the UNESCO.

Today in South Sudan 80% of the population relies on subsistence agriculture for their livelihoods. Their heavy dependence on fuelwood and charcoal is estimated to contribute to an annual deforestation rate of between 1.5 – 2.0 % annually. Even the climate change in the country has exacerbate access to safe water, lead to poor sanitation and food insecurity. The “flourishing agriculture sector, which depends on the viability of land and water resources, is crucial to long-term peace and development”.  However, sustainable development measures for strengthening policies on child’s rights and social inclusivity was created through the formation of “African Children’s Foundation Organization’’ (ACFO).  ACFO was founded by the group of internal displaced persons (IDPs) in 2014 and registered as civil society non-governmental organization in 2022 to improve research advocacy and dissemination of information on children’s rights in South Sudan.

“What do we live for if not to make life less difficult for each other?”

“Men are rich only as they give. He who gives great service gets great rewards.”

Sometimes one can become lost in a big company and lose sight of how what one does truly helps or impacts the end customer. If you are one of those, think of a fire brigade, a line of people passing buckets of water from one to the other from a source of water to the site of the fire. An individual in the brigade may not be able to see the end result, i.e., the water being thrown on the fire to put it out, but the contribution of the individual is indispensable to the final outcome.

End with a message of hope and optimism for the future.

Hope is a great thing. It gives flight to our dreams, gives confidence to our hearts, and gives strength to our convictions. No matter where you’re heading or what you seek to accomplish, you can always use a boost of hope.

One of the things we learned the hard way, was that it doesn’t pay to get discouraged. Keeping busy and making optimism a way of life can restore your faith in yourself. – Lucille Ball.
