Keeping Children in School: Protecting South Sudan’s Future
Read More
Feeding programmes and caregiver training are helping families improve daily nutrition.
A hungry child cannot learn, play, or grow the way they should. In the communities where ACFO works, many families face difficult months when food stocks run low and meals shrink to once a day. The youngest children pay the highest price — poor nutrition in early childhood affects health and development for life.
Our nutrition work supports children and caregivers with practical help now and stronger food security for the future.

Working with schools and early learning centres, we support feeding initiatives that give children a reliable, nutritious meal. For some learners this is the meal that makes the school day possible — teachers consistently report better attendance and concentration where feeding is in place.
Lasting change happens in the kitchen, not just the distribution line. Our caregiver sessions cover meal planning with locally available foods, hygiene and safe food handling, breastfeeding support, and feeding practices for infants and young children.
Caregivers leave with skills they can use immediately — and share. Each trained caregiver becomes a resource for her neighbours, multiplying the reach of every session.

Vegetable gardens near the home put nutritious food within reach all year round. With seeds, tools, and simple training, families are growing greens, okra, and beans that diversify meals and reduce dependence on markets.
When a mother can pick vegetables from her own garden, her children eat better every single week.
Nutrition is where health, livelihoods, and education meet. We will keep expanding feeding support, caregiver training, and home gardens so that fewer children in our communities go to bed — or to school — hungry.
